Today I’m taking you in the Kitchen for a sweet Independence Day recipe! It is hot, hot, hot outside, so why not cool off with a delicious sweet for this fourth of July! Try my recipe for a San Francisco Style Ice Cream Sundae with Homemade Hot Fudge and Toffee Sauce! These sundaes are very easy to make and are a hit with children and adults alike. Make a batch of Hot Fudge and Toffee Sauce and serve buffet style with different flavors of ice cream and various toppings. Your guests will have a blast!
San Francisco Style Ice Cream Sundae with Homemade Hot Fudge and Toffee Sauce
Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce
4 ounces 60% Cacao Bittersweet Chocolate Baking Bar
4 tablespoons butter, cut into chunks
1 ½ cups sugar
½ cup water
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
In a heavy saucepan, combine the chocolate (broken into 1/4-inch pieces), butter, sugar, and water. Stir the mixture continuously over medium heat until the chocolate and butter have melted and the sugar has dissolved. When the sauce comes to a boil, lower the heat and continue boiling gently for 10 minutes. Remove the thickened sauce from the heat, and stir in the vanilla extract. Serve the sauce hot over ice cream.
Toffee Sauce
¾ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
2 tablespoon butter
¼ tsp baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
2-4 tablespoon half and half
Add brown sugar, butter, and baking soda in a small saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat until sugar is dissolved and mixture starts to boil. When it becomes a deep golden brown, remove heat and add vanilla, and half and half (use just enough until desired thickness). Stir well and let mixture cool then serve hot over ice cream.
Today I’m taking you in the Kitchen for a fresh summertime recipe! The first day of summer began on June 20th so get outside and enjoy the rays! If you’re hosting a backyard BBQ or gathering outdoors, here is a perfect summertime recipe that is refreshing and showcases some of this summer’s star produce. Try my recipe for a refreshingly delicious Shrimp and Corn Ceviche served with Tostadas. Pick up some fresh sweet corn and some ripe tomatoes at your local farmers market or grocery store and bring them home for this delicious summery appetizer or light lunch.
Shrimp and Corn Ceviche with Yellow Corn Tostadas
14 oz raw shrimp, medium (41/50), peeled, deveined and diced
1 ear yellow corn
2 beefsteak tomatoes, diced small
2 lemons, large
3 limes
1 orange
1 tablespoon salt, kosher
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 bunch cilantro, chopped
1 bowl of yellow corn tostadas, for serving
Dice the shrimp in bite sized pieced and place in a large bowl. Next cut the corn off of the ear and dice the tomatoes and add these vegetables to the shrimp. Juice the citrus and pour the juice over the shrimp and vegetables mixture. Season the mixture with salt, pepper and chopped cilantro. Mix well then cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for 1 hour until the shrimp is pink. When ready to serve enjoy this delicious ceviche with crunchy yellow corn tostadas.

BBQ and grilling enthusiasts out there, this app is for you! “Great Backyard Grilling with Daniella Malfitano” is a fantastic app perfect for this time of year, and is available for download today on iTunes. With close to 80 lip-smacking grilling recipes, this app is sure to bring out the passionate griller in you. The recipes are all illustrated and presented in a step-by-step manner. Included with each recipe is a list of required ingredients, details of the time needed for preparation and cooking, and the level of difficulty. Users have the option of adding their favorite recipes to their favorites list or personal shopping lists. Grilling has never been so exciting. If you are craving grilled beef, pork, lamb, seafood, chicken, vegetables or fruits, your wait ends here. And if you know other people who just can't seem to tear themselves away from the grill, recommend this app to them so that they can download it and add it to their grilling repertoire.

Vegetable Crostini with Parmesan & Basil
Prep time: 30 min
Cooking time: 8 min
Difficulty: Easy
| 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil, divided 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar 2 sprig fresh basil, plus extra 1 zucchini 2 red bell pepper 8 scallions kosher salt freshly ground black pepper 2 oz Parmesan cheese oil, for the grill 4 slice sourdough bread 1 tbsp canola oil 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted 1 clove garlic, minced 1 tbsp parsley, finely chopped 3 tbsp lemon juice |

Preheat the grill to high for direct grilling. In a small bowl, whisk half the olive oil and all balsamic vinegar together. Finely chop four basil leaves, add to oil mixture and mix well. Cut zucchini lengthwise into 1/2-inch slices. Cut peppers into 2-inch strips and then trim scallions. Brush vegetables with the oil mixture. Brush the hot grill grate lightly with oil. Grill vegetables for 4 minutes per side, until tender. Remove from grill, season with salt and pepper. In a small bowl, whisk canola oil, melted butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley together. Brush on bread slices and season with salt and pepper. Toast on grill until golden brown. In a small bowl, mix lemon juice, 1 to 2 tablespoons finely chopped basil and pepper together. Gradually add remaining olive oil, stirring until well blended. Arrange grilled vegetables, fresh basil leaves and shaved Parmesan on top of grilled bread. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Drizzle with lemon vinaigrette and serve.
Today I’m taking you in the Kitchen for a recipe for Father’s Day! Try this delicious recipe for Grilled Carne Asada Tacos marinated in an orange, garlic, and smoky chili powder rub. This recipe is perfect to prepare for your Dad this Father’s day or any day of the summer and will give you an excuse to get outside and fire up that BBQ or the indoor grill!

Grilled Carne Asada Tacos
1 lb. hanger steak 5 cloves garlic, minced 1 orange, large 2 tablespoon chili powder 1 tablespoon smoked paprika 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper 1 tablespoon salt Corn tortillas Yellow onion, diced fine for garnish Cilantro, chopped for garnish |

Place the hanger steak in a plastic container with a lid or in a plastic bag and coat with minced garlic, the juice of an orange, chili powder, smoked paprika and black pepper. Mix well to rub all of the ingredients on the steak. Let the meat marinate overnight or at least 1 hour. To cook the carne asada, heat a grill pan or the BBQ on high heat. Season the steak with salt on both sides, then place the steak directly on the grill and leave it undisturbed for 6-8 minutes, depending on the thickness of the steak. Turn the steak 90° and cook it for another 3-5 minutes to create nice grill marks. Flip the steak to the other side and repeat this process until the steak is cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from the grill and let sit for 10 minutes before slicing. Meanwhile heat a few tortillas on the grill just to warm through. To serve the tacos place a mound of meat over two stacked warm corn tortillas and top with a generous garnish of onions and chopped cilantro.

Ghost Army
Airing: May 21th at 8pm
This program tells the true story of American G.I.s -- many of whom would go on to have illustrious careers in art, design and fashion -- who tricked the enemy with rubber tanks, sound effects and visual illusions during the World War II. The 23rd Headquarters Special Troops staged a traveling road show of deception designed to con the Germans right on the front lines. From Normandy to the Rhine, they conjured up phony convoys, phantom divisions and make-believe headquarters to fool the enemy about the strength and location of American units. Every move they made was top secret and their story was hushed up for decades after the war's end. Many of the men chosen to carry out these deceptions were young artists recruited from art schools across the country. In their spare time, they painted and sketched their way across Europe, creating a unique and moving visual record of their war. Some would go on to become famous, including fashion designer Bill Blass, painter Ellsworth Kelley and photographer Art Kane. This documentary features interviews with 19 Ghost Army veterans, as well as retired general Wesley Clark and other military historians.

$40 a year KIXE KIDS CLUB Membership Level - each Kid Club Member will receive a custom birthday card with fun surprises inside, parent and kids discounts at participating businesses, a surprise scrubby buddy animal in the mail and exclusive invitation to our annual Kids Club party.
$60 a year BASIC FAMILY Membership Level - This membership level comes with a quarterly newsletter to keep you up to date on station activities and discounts as well as insight into the daily operations of KIXE TV.
$9 for Channel 9 / EVERGREEN Membership Level - This is an automatic, ongoing, monthly contribution from your checking account (EFT), credit card or debit card account. Your membership renews each year automatically. You receive all the benefits of the basic membership level and you can change or end your contribution at any time. All EVERGREEN members will be entered in a monthly raffle and will also receive the quarterly newsletter.
$250 a year FOUNDATION Members Level - This membership level helps build a foundation for your local PBS station by honoring a child or love one with an additional foundation membership in their name along with a personalized membership greeting card. Donor and Contributor Privacy.
KIXE is a Public broadcasting entities receiving CPB funds KIXE will not disclose contributor or donor names, or other personally identifiable information, to any nonaffiliated third party unless three specific requirements are met: (1) the CPB grantee clearly and conspicuously discloses to the contributor or donor that personally identifiable information may be disclosed to nonaffiliated third parties; (2) before the time that any information is initially disclosed, the contributor or donor is given the opportunity to direct that such information not be disclosed to nonaffiliated third parties; and (3) the contributor or donor is given an explanation of how the contributor or donor may exercise that nondisclosure option.
a KIXE will maintain active control over their membership and donor lists, and take all appropriate measures to prevent unauthorized use of these lists. This requirement applies to the station and third parties working for the station, including but not limited to list brokers, mail-list management organizations, Friends organizations, fundraising organizations, or advertising or public relations agencies, to abide by a grantee's compliance requirements, except as otherwise required by law or judicial process.
b. KIXE will not disclose contributor or donor names or other personally identifiable information to any nonaffiliated third party unless, before the time that such information is initially disclosed, the grantee clearly and conspicuously discloses to all of its contributors and donors that such personal information may be disclosed to nonaffiliated third parties. c. KIXE will periodically remind contributors or donors of any potential for sale, rental, lease, loan, trade, gift, donation, transfer, or exchange of their names and personally identifiable information; and offer a means by which the names and other personally identifiable information may be suppressed upon request; and suppress the names as requested, except as otherwise required by law or judicial process.
3. Record Retention.
CPB requires that KIXE maintain complete, accurate, and secure records by which it may be assured that grantees are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations of the Federal government relating to this policy, and the eligibility requirements for public broadcasting entities as established by the Corporation. These records may be maintained in any format; they must be maintained for a period not less than three years. A grantee may contract with an affiliated third party to maintain the grantee's records, provided that the records are maintained in accordance with CPB's policies. If a grantee utilizes an affiliated third party to maintain records, the grantee retains and bears the responsibility of ensuring the records are maintained in compliance with CPB policies.
Non-political Organizations.
As a public broadcasting entity KIXE may buy, sell, exchange, lease, or rent donor or contributor lists to, from, or with other organizations or individuals provided that such organizations or individuals are not candidates for Federal, State or local office, political parties, or political committees; and further provided that the public broadcasting entity complies with all of the provisions of CPB's donor list policy provisions relating Section 396(k)(12) of the Act.

PBS delivers big return for a small investment
Strong communities are the foundation of a strong country. And PBS builds communities every day. Our programs are free to everyone with a television set, and most of our funding comes from local viewers. So even if our living rooms are far apart, when we watch PBS, we’re growing – together.
That’s why we ask you to do your part. We need your financial support to keep this service independent and commercial free.
Without your support, imagine what would be lost: you’d lose the shows that expanded your mind as a child, the documentaries that opened up new worlds that you as a student, the non-commerical PBS news programs that keep you informed on world events and cultures and exposure the worlds of music, theatre, dance and art.
